Teen Life
Well being a teen isn't all its cracked up to be as most of you
probably already know. We have to deal with stuff our parents never dreamed of dealing with in life.
In school they used to be afraid that someone would bring a frog to school and let it loose in the class
but now its the worry of guns being brought to school. Well that's just one of the many things we have
to deal with today. Well here are my views on just a few of the things plaguing us.
Guys vs. Girls
Well I think I'm going to establish my opinion of most teenagers that I have come in contact with.
60% of girls are shallow (give or take 5%) and 90% of guys are the same way.
Guys are the easiest so I'll start with them first. It is true that a lot guys only want girls for sex.
It is also true that most guys will only go out with a girl if she is "fine". I have seen this in action
with a few people that I used to play basketball with. These guys aren't popular with girls and their
standards of what their girlfriend should look like was really high. Every single one of them wanted a
Pamela Anderson look-a-like who put out. Still to this day all but one has the same view and the guy who
changed his view has accually changed his personality and now he's cool to hang around. The thing I hate
is that since most teenage guys are like the ones above or worse, parents and other adults start stereotyping
us. If a guy goes over to his girlfriends house for the first time I garuntee you 99% of the time the parents
will think, "Wonder if he's going to try something with my daughter." I detest the fact that people don't believe
me when I say I'm not going to have sex till I'm married and I'm doing it for my own reasons (not religous, parental, etc.).
Yes I am a guy and yes I really do think this way. I'll discuss sex later on. Anyways, the 90% of the guys that
are out there give the last 10% of us a bad name.
Now on to the sweet and innocent girls (note the sarcasim). As I said 60% of girls today are shallow. Most girls will not give a guy a chance if he doesn't look
like a member of one of the many "boy bands". Girls here's a situation for you:
There is this guy who isn't very popular
and not that great looking (not ugly but a little less than average). He likes you and asks you out on a date even though
you're part of the "popular" crowd. He's the nicest/sweetest/most perfect guy for you personality wise.
All your friends think it's hilarious that he asked you out. Would you go out with him if he wasn't part of
your crowd? Would you go out with him even though he wasn't the best looking guy? Most girls would answer
"Yes I would." but that is total BS. I know you have to have some physical attraction to them so I'll throw in
that you are attracted to him just enough to look past the rest of his looks. Would you go out with him? The answer
would still probably be no. My friend Kristen has a friend who will probably go out with this guy just because he
is good looking. The thing is that her friend even knows he only wanted to go out with her to "Fuck her" (his quote
exactly). I know that's not all girls but it is a lot of them.
Here's an example that deals with me. First I'm going to tell you that
I am just an average looking guy. I'm not ugly but not Brad Pitt and the extent of compliments on my looks has been
"cute". I know I'm not a fine guy and don't try to act it. Well I as at a concert last year with a couple friends
and they wanted to go talk to some girls and two of them and I saw these three girls so we went to talk to them. These
two friends of mine are good looking guys (basically girls say they want to jump them everytime they see them). We walked
over and started talking to the girls and guess who was getting all the attention. The other two guys and I know for a
fact that the two guys I was with were the typical "sex-crazed" teenage guy and they showed it. Girls may say that they
don't judge people on looks but that is total BS. Also a lot of the girls that are in that 85% of are worse about sex
than guys are. An example would be a girl in one of my classes last year told me that since she's had sex she wants
it 24/7. Even guys aren't that bad (well some are). I know for a fact that there are more girls like the one above.
Love and Relationships
Okay this is going to be a fun one for me because of my past experiences. I have had bad experiences,
good experiences, and experiences that were both. I think that I am the posterchild for the "Nice Guys
Finish Last" club.
Relationships for teenagers are supposed to be things that help you when its time for you to fall in love.
I ask you this though, when do you know you're in love or ready for love? Well I feel like a hypocrite on
this subject because I've been telling people that love isn't possible in High School and what you are
experiencing is "puppy love". I've accually experienced love on a first hadn basis and am still in love.
Love is possible in high school. Just look at how many people have married their High School sweethearts. I say
that if you find love hang on to it and do everything you can to keep it because its the greatest feeling in the world.
Onto relationships now. I heard on the radio about a week ago some guy talking about how a group of ten 8th graders at some private
school were participating in a weekly "petting party". These parties were basically where girls gave the guys blow jobs and made out.
The guy on the radio said that one of the girls interviewed said that she did it because she wanted to guys to like her. Well with
that comment he made this statement.
"Girls play at sex to get love and guys play at love to get sex"
Well I partially agree and partially disagree with that statement. At that age all guys are horny little bastards (believe me I was)
and all they wanted was sex. Girls at that age want to act grown up and have a relationship that will last for years because it makes
them look older and they will do what they must to get one. (note to all its really late and some of this stuff might not make sense
to anyone but me so if it doesn't please let me know) Its hard to find a mature person that is willing to have a commited relationship
in High School. Also in relationships I believe that communication is the key to being successful. If you're not open with someone then
it will never work (I know from experience).
I just thought of this just now. How about plutonic relationships? Why is it that parents don't think someone can't have oppisite sex
friends that are nothing more than friends. My parents don't seem to think so. I plan on rooming with some friends in college and guess what,
two of them are girls. These two girls are some my best friends and I don't think of them in any way but friends (and if I did their signifigant
others, who I'm friends with, would kill me). I'm just not interested in them in that way. Don't get me wrong they are very attractive girls
and what I wouldn't do for a girlfriend who looked like one of them but there's no sexual attraction between us. Well basically all I want to say
is that it is possible for a guy and a girl to be just friends.
Sex
Okay now on to everyone's favorite topic, sex. Now that we are teenagers we have to ability to know what sex is and
accually have it. I don't like the idea of sex before marriage. The reason I don't like it is that your 30 minutes of
pleasure can cause you a lifetime of pain. Girls also don't realize guys will say anything to have sex with
a girl becaues a friend of mine believed this guy when he was he was a virgin. I asked her if he did
everthing right in sex and it made her think. He did everything right and probably lied to her like
I suspected he did. Girls can get pregnant for one thing and a lot of guys will leave once they
are. I detest girls that say, "Well we use a condom." Condoms don't always work. It is a prooven fact that a condom is
only good for a certain amount of time after you buy it and a lot of people just have a box that's a year old sitting in
their room. Also condoms are only 90%-95% effective if used within a week of purchase time. You may say, "That's a pretty
good percentage." and it is a good percentage but there's still that 5%-10% in there where the condom won't work. Also
condoms have been known to break from time to time. Someone I know who is sexually active has had two pregnancy scares. The
first one she was only a few days late on her period but the second she was two and a half weeks late. How do you think
she felt about being that late? How would you like to have to wake up every morning praying that you have your period? Doesn't
sound too fun. I don't even think I have to say anything about STD's because they speak for themselves.
People also often forget that there are other things you can do besides sex. Though I am against having sex before marriage, I
am not against "fooling around" as long as you know your limits. I know my limits even though I haven't experienced
that before. I know how far I'll go and what I'll do and what I won't do. But if you still want to have sex atleast
use protection (if I was having sex I'd double bag it and have the girl use something too). The thing I hate more than
people having sex before marriage is people having unprotected sex. That's just stupid right there. Atleast with a condom
or some for of protection you have some leeway.
I bet you are thinking, "Well the reason he is against sex is because he can't get any if he tried." Well just to inform
you, I have turned down sex before. I will admit that I did think long and hard about it (no pun intended) but in the end
I said no because I weighed the pros and cons.
Dating
I was told by a good friend of mine to do this section so hopefully I can come up with a lot of stuff.
Well first off I'm gonna say this is something I don't have much experience with. I've only had four
girlfriends and three of them I've been screwed over in. Although I've only had four girlfriends I have
experienced a lot through the relationships and experienced a lot from friend's relationships. First off
I have realized that you will most likely not fine the one in high school so don't stick with
someone if they screw you over. My philosophy is "once is a mistake but twice is unforgivable" so if
your signifigant other does something to you twice then leave them. Another thing my friend asked me
to do was to put down my opinion's for how guys and girls should act on dates and when they're serious
with someone.
Guys first because I'm a guy and know more about how we should act. Guys, in my opinion, should be the
perfect gentleman. They should pay for the girls on dates, open the doors for them, be nice and polite,
and don't try to get down their pants in the middle of dinner. Guys should try to make the first move
but when you're like me you're too shy to do it so do whatever is comfortable with you. When a guy is serious with a girl he should
not expect anything from her
because they are serious. Buy the girl things....just stupid little things and she'll appreciate you
a lot more. Also remember aniverseries because they always do and when that time comes around take them
out for something special. The last thing is just to be yourself.
For girls, in my opinion, they should let the guy pay for them and let them be nice. But be a little wary
because there are many guys who only do nice things to get laid. Girls should also not complain about
what a guy tries very hard to do. Don't cut him down if he went out of his way for you or spent 20$ instead
of 30$ on a present for you. Also just be yourself too. Don't put up a fake dumb blonde look cause it only
makes you look easy even if you're not. I know plenty of girls who act stupid cause they think guys want
them to act stupid. I don't want girls to act stupid because I enjoy a deep conversation every once in a while
instead of talking about "what color should I paint my nails?" "does this dress make me look fat" "this
new Nsync album is really good because the guys are cute".....it doesn't work that way.
When you start a steady relationship with someone the first thing you should do is to open communication
flood gates with them. Also don't expect much from the person and if they give more than you expect then
you'll be totally happy. Another thing is to be totally open and honest with the other person. My last
relationship crashed and burned cause the girl wasn't open and honest with me. If you have a problem then
sit down face to face and talk it out! I've seen too many relationships (and a couple of my own) fail because
the people won't talk it out.
Drugs, Alcohol, and Smoking
Okay lets start off with the most popular, smoking. Now I believe smoking is the
stupidest thing a person can do. Why would you want to inhale something into your lungs to make
them all black and nasty? I mean I could understand a little if you got a high or something
out of it but you don't! I hate people who smoke. I think the main reason teens start to smoke
is because they think it makes them look cool. Well it doesn't. If you wanna shorten your life
then go jump out of a building, just don't let us deal with second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is
the biggest pain in the butt to deal with so if you wanna kill yourself do it somewhere where it
won't hurt other people. I can understand the parents and grandparents that smoke because the
tobbacco companies failed to tell them about the addictive products they added, but now that we
know that how come we still do it? Did you know cigarettes are worse for you than pot? It's true and
I'll find the reference ASAP and post it right here for everyone to see. Pot isn't that good for you either
but I'll wait till the drug section to tell you about that. Smoking kills people and if it wouldn't
start another prohibition mob scene I'd say make it illegal.
Alcohol is the easiest thing for a teenager to get. It's even easier to get than cigarettes.
Parents have alcohol in their houses which makes it readily available to anyone. First off I'm gonna
say I don't have a problem with people drinking in moderation, but I have a big problem with people
drinking to get drunk. What is the point of getting drunk? Is it so you don't remember what you did
(or who you did) in the span of a few hours? Or is the point to throw up all morning with a nasty
hang-over? Are people really that stupid? Let's see....hmmm....not remember a few hours of my life
and puke for half the next day or stay sober and accually know what you're doing and wake up without
a hang-over. Which would you pick? I think I'd have to go with remembering what happened that night
and getting a good nights sleep. Oh I have had a few drinks before but nothing big so as I said before
I do not have a problem with drinking in moderation just drinking heavily.
Oh yeah this is gonna be a long one I can tell already. "Don't do drugs." Easy enough slogan to remeber
isn't it? Well then how come kids keep doing drugs? Because kids are stupid...enough said. Do you know
how many people at my school smoke pot? I do and it's a whole lot and there's definitly more that I don't
know about. It seems that almost everyone does. Preppy football players and cheerleaders, FCA people,
skaters and freaks, nerds, and just regular people. It makes me sick to see how many people use pot or
heavier drugs. Well as I said before it was prooven that pot was better for you than cigarettes and
that's only because the drug itself isn't addictive. The thing about pot is that the high is addictive
and that makes it worse in some ways. Another reason is that pot is somewhat better is that it doesn't have all the other crap (ie. tar)
in it as do cigarettes. There are a lot of people that want to legalize it for that very reason. Do you
know what would happen if it was legal? It'd end up the same as cigarettes and a lot of additives would
be added. Okay then how bout heavier drugs? They are more addicting and more dangereous
than pot. Everyone has heard the stories of crack addicts selling their clothes for more crack. Do you
really wanna end up like that? Didn't think so. How bout heroin addicts? Steven Tyler of Aerosmith said
that heroin was the worst thing that happened to him. He described how the drug worked. When you first
used it you feel sick to your stomach then basically everything after that is a blur. He said it felt
good but it was very addicting. I've seen video of people who have tried to "kick the habbit". It was horrible!
They showed people locked in a room literally convulsing for three days before the heroin was out of their
system. Oh yeah that sounds like fun! "Hey guys lets go do some heroin and when we try to stop we lay
in the middle of a room convulsing while trying to quit." I don't think so. Are people really that stupid?
I guess so. Another point that prooves my "Almost everyone in the world is stupid" theory. I'm not gonna
say anything about any other drugs cause its all pretty much the same. So on to the next topic.
Guns, Violence, and Discrimination
I'll talk about the Colinbine incodent first. The kids that were involved were messed up in the head phsycologically.
Parents are now all freaked out by this incodent and think that some kid will come shoot up the school. First off there
was something seriously wrong with those kids. Something made them do what they did and my theory is that one of them
(probably the brown haired one....don't remember their names) was the leader with all the problems and the other one
just did it to follow. The TV was trying to blame the game DOOM on their accuracy. Um...hmmm....tell me if this makes any
sense whatsoever. If you move your mouse around on the screen and click the button (or push the arrow keys and click a
button) and then you go out and try to shoot a gun you'll be a perfect shot. Nope we can add that into the BS pile (I think
we need to get someone to clean it up cause it's getting pretty high). They tried to blame it on music but it wasn't
the music that did it. Oh no! Watch out of Marylin Manson! He tells everyone to kill people at their school! (note the sarcasim) It wasn't
the TV either. It was just two stupid teenagers that were messed up in the head.
Now onto guns and other weapons. Weapons are always gonna be around. No matter what you have you can make it into a weapon.
At my stupid communistic school we have to tuck in our shirts because we can bring guns in our waist band. Hmmm can we say
more BS. That pile is starting to smell now. There are things called "pockets" (oooooo) "bookbags" (ahhhhhh) and dare we say.....
"purses" (ohhhhhh). A gun can fit into any of those and other weapons a lot easier than that. There are people at my school
that have pocket knives on their keychains! I wonder if we can ban those darn keychains. Probably not. You can make a weapon out
of anything you can find. A pencil, book, even those cheap plastic forks from the lunch room would probably poke someone's eye
out if you're not careful. Basically all I'm trying to say is that violence isn't going to go away unless we make it go away
and make adults trust us. I know it won't happen but, hey, we can try.
Oh now for every minorities favorite word (majorly j/k) discrimination. Discrimination is stupid. Enough said right? Well I see
it everywhere I go. I am even guilty of it more than a few times. All of us are. I hate preps who think they're all bad-asses even
though they aren't. That's discrimination, though a lower form of one. Everyone does that kind of discrimination and we can't help it.
No matter what you say you will always discriminate against someone in some way or another. The discrimination that I want to talk
about is the major stuff. Racial, Religious, and Sexual Preference.
We'll get racial out of the way cause that's the most known. Discriminating against race is just plain stupid. I still see it everywhere
in the world but it sticks to only comments instead of action. Have you noticed that people don't like venturing down to "black" neighborhoods?
There are bad black people in those neighborhoods but there are also bad white people, bad mexicans, bad chinese, etc. We had a black
couple live two doors down from me and when they moved and someone else moved in a neighbor of mine was like, "They have two kids but atleast they
aren't black" (something to that effect). It disgusted me! This couple kept to themselves mostly cause they worked night shifts and were out of town
a lot. When I did get to talk to them they were extremely nice. There was nothing wrong with them and my neighbor made that comment. I've met
a lot of cool minorities....hell I'm getting rid of the word minorities. Tell me if this sounds familiar, "All men are created EQUAL".
We're the ones that aren't making people equal. I had a friend in my Phsycology class who was Mexican. We had the best time! Her name for me
was "Quero" which means "white boy" in Spanish. I just called her "Mexican", well because she was a Mexican. There was a racial difference but we
looked passed that. We had the best time and we got through Physcology together without being bored. Also the NAACP is seperating us even further.
I am totally against affermitive action because of what it does. Here's an example: My mom's family didn't make much money and she wanted to go to
college. They made too much money for state help and not enough money to pay for her college. My mom worked three jobs and found time to get
close to a 4.0! The problem is that there were a lot (not all) of black kids there for free from affermative action who just didn't care. The college
was afraid to flunk them because they didn't want to get sued. Does anyone else see a problem with that? That problem is still here today.
People getting accused of discrimination for stupid reasons. White people are the ones being discriminated against more often now. Here's a hypothetical
situation: A white man goes to a job interview wearing a nice suit and he's a graduate from Harvard. Also a black man is applying
for the same job but wears a slightly less professional outfit and slightly less prestigeous qualifications. With affermative
action that company needs a certain amount of minorities (I hate that word) before they get sued by the NAACP or someone. The black
person will get hired even though he has slightly less qualifications. Do you know what affermative action is teaching younger minorities
(damnit I really hate that word but I have to use it)? It's teaching them that they can get things just cause they're black, hispanic, chinese, etc.
I don't think that's right.
